Why use BibServ?

BibServ provides two services: maintaining your bibliography online, and searching through its database of half a million bibliography entries. Registered users receive custom-tailored search results, according to their specified web-of-trust.

1. BibServ allows you to maintain an online bibliography. There are many advantages to maintaining your bibliography online:
   • Easy to search and browse for reference
   • More powerful search options (e.g. Boolean searches)
   • Easy to edit
   • Can add new entries from other users' bibliographies with just one click
   • Have access to your bibliography anywhere you have a browser
   • Make your papers instantly available to other users
   You are also helping other users by making available references which they may be having difficulty locating otherwise. We can accept bibliography entries in BibTeX format, and can also import entries from EndNote. In the near future, we plan on supporting many more formats, such as MedLine and Refer, and also building connectors to allow direct querying from EndNote.
2. BibServ allows users to specify the trust and quality of other users and biblography entries. This improves not only their search results, but also the search results of all other users of the system.
3. Because the majority of the bibliography entries in BibServ are hand-created, you can expect most of them to be of high quality. Further, users specify a web of trust, and rate the quality of the entries' bibtex, which helps the system filter out the low quality results.
4. BibServ realizes that different people have different styles and preferences for their bibliography entries and so explicitly allows multiple entries to all refer to the same paper.
5. The entries contained in BibServ are maintained and updated by its users. This means it is quick and immediate for you to add your papers to the database. As a result, BibServ is is likely to be more up to date than other bibliography databases.
